In recent years several tools for acoustic measurement, psychoacoustic and signal analysis have been developed. We hope you will find these tools helpful for your research. They are all free for non-commercial research and private usage and most are without any restrictions at all. However, if you really work with one of them often, please think about donating (more details below). For discussions and questions you can contact us directly.
IHASpectrogram IHASpatialAnalyzer MatPlug psylab msound mmidi ReverbAnalysisToolbox PureMeasurement Lambda
This freeware plug-in (no distribution allowed) is an accurate spectrogram with a few useful features. (Download) the installer (manual provided) (MD5: ec862d897abd9d61ae9c82de6864f6ae)
This freeware plug-in (no distribution allowed) is a VST-implementation of the spatial distribution meter (SDM) published at the AES in Vienna 2007. (Download) the installer (manual provided) (MD5: 515fbe4dde90f05edb42c08decdd908b)
A VST-PlugIn that connects the VST-interface with Matlab. With this tool you can implement DSP algorithms in Matlab and try them in your favourite DAW. This software is free for private and non-commercial use. However, if you want to use it for longer than 15min in one session you need to send an email (see contact below) to get your own free registration file. You have to provide information on who your are and on the intended usage for the plug-in. (We are just curious. Your data will not be used for any other purposes.) (Download) the installer (manual provided) (MD5: 879dfe7becf2ba6247c966fd003f89d3)
The updated MatPlug v1.1 contains some bug-fixes and new example scripts. It is suggested to uninstall prior versions of MatPlug before upgrading to v1.1, since the old "ADelay" effect won't work any longer and has been replaced by the "Feedback" effect. If you already have a MatPlug.lic file, simply place it in the same directory as the installer, so it'll automatically installed together with MatPlug.
psylab is a tool for designing and controlling interactive psychoacoustical listening experiments in a uniform and quick manner. It is written as a collection of scripts, written in Matlab. Currently, n-AFC experiments (n=2,3,4) with adaptive control of the stimulus variable according to 1-up-2-down-, 1-up-1-down-, algorithms etc. are readily supported.
This software including documentation, and example experiments can be downloaded at psylab's website.

msound is an interface between Matlab and your soundcard. It is based on PortAudio and allows you to do real-time audio processing with, in principle, unlimited duration in Matlab. For example, it allows simultaneous playback and recording to and from your sound card.
Msound v1.1 is now available. It supports Steinberg's ASIO audio API, and provides a more comfortable 'deviceInfo' command, plus various internal updates. This version of msound is released under the terms of the LGPL 2.1.
The precompiled msound (win32) download packages feature an old msound.dll library (compiled with Matlab R14SP2) as well as a more recent msound.mexw32 MEX-file (compiled with Matlab R2008b.) Be aware that msound.mexw32 uses Matlab's 48bit array size feature, and therefore is not compatible with Matlab R2006a or below.
MMidi is a portmidi based implementation of a midi interface between Matlab and any hardware midi device. It will receive / send all midi messages except SysEx, which is not supported. The latency is quite short; therefore, it is possible to implement a synthesizer in Matlab, if you are using a block-based audio Matlab interface like msound. (Download Win32 precompiled dll + examples) (Download source and precompiled version for Mac and Linux)
This toolbox contains several measures to analyze room impulse responses. However, they have been tested for artificial reverberation devices only. (Download)
PureMeasurement (GNU GPL) is a collection of patches for Pure Data (http://puredata.info), which let you perform acoustical measurements (sound pressure levels, octave, 3rd octave and A-weighting filters @44100Hz, FFT-based spectral analysis, reverberation time estimation, ...) with your sound card: Download (platform independent zip archive). You will also need pd-extended (>=0.42.5).

Lambda (GNU GPL) is a 2D acoustic wave simulator based on the Transmission Line Matrix (TLM) method. Download Linux version, download Win32 version (documentation and examples included). Please note that *.sim-files for previous versions (<=1.2) of Lambda are not compatible with Lambda 2.0. You may use the converter (Matlab or Scilab) in the "scripts" directory to convert your old *.sim files into new ones.

Please be aware that we are no company and perhaps might not be able to answer your emails, but we will try.
If you find this software useful, please support our students with a donation to our association for the students, former students and friends of the institute of hearing technology and audiology
A donation is not limited to money. As a state university we are usually under-funded. Therefore, promotional items of your software or developed devices are highly appreciated.
